Get the Most Out of Your Invisalign Treatment With These 4 Tips

Let’s face it, aligning your teeth is an extensive process that requires a lot of commitment. In terms of overall speed and discretion, Invisalign is clearly the most optimal solution. However, the success of the treatment depends on whether or not the patient follows the prescribed plan. To offer a bit of advice concerning how to do just that, here are four tips on how to get the most out of your Invisalign treatment.

1. Wear Your Aligners

Every treatment plan demands that patients wear their aligners for 22 hours per day. Consequently, it is only permissible to remove your aligners when eating or brushing your teeth. Failure to consistently wear your aligners can result in a whole slew of problems. For one, your teeth will have nothing to conform to and will undoubtedly misalign. While this can certainly be a setback, you can simply have your dentist take a new impression and construct a band new pair. However, do be aware that these services are not free, so it’s best to get into the habit of wearing your aligners from the start.

2. Don’t Throw Away Your Old Aligners

When you get a new set of aligners, make sure to keep the previous set just in case something happens to the new ones. This way, you can keep your teeth aligned while the dentist makes you a new set.

3. Chewies are Your Friend

Don’t neglect your chewies. These are cylindrical pieces of hard plastic that are used to form fit your aligners to your teeth. You will know you need them if you notice air pockets between the aligners and your teeth. Should this happen, bite down on the chewies for 10 minutes, 3 times every day. Doing so will help remove the air pockets, as well as significantly accelerate your recovery time.

4. Don’t Neglect Your Teeth and Gums

As previously mentioned, only remove your aligners to eat and brush your teeth. When it comes to brushing, sticking to your everyday routine should be adequate enough so long as that includes brushing, flossing, and rinsing with mouthwash. You could also use a tongue scraper if you are not already. Additionally, take care to clean your aligners as well. To do so, simply apply a little bit of toothpaste and gently brush the interior until the space is clean. Repeating this every day should keep your teeth looking great throughout your treatment.
