Which Foods are good for Kids’ Teeth?

What children eat not only impacts the health of their body, it impacts their oral health and tooth development as well. Generally, foods that are good for your child’s overall health are also good for your child’s teeth. Although any major dietary decisions should be made in consultation with your family physician, here are some general pediatric dentistrytips regarding diet and children’s oral health:

  • Provide fruit and vegetables as snacks instead of carbohydrate-heavy snacks such as white bread products, cookies and pastries. Carbohydrates, sugar and starch all contribute to tooth decay when they remain on the teeth.
  • Limit or eliminate soda and juice, and emphasize water and milk instead. Sugary drinks linger on the teeth and lead to tooth decay.
  • Provide calcium-rich foods, such as yogurt and broccoli, which build strong, healthy teeth.

At Cedar Park Premier Dentistry, we can begin providing your child’s routine care as early as 4 years old. Routine cleanings and checkups are important to the development of your child’s teeth and the structures supporting the teeth, and to your child’s oral health and prevention of common childhood dental problems.

If you are searching for an experienced dentist to provide effective dental care for everyone in your family, please contact Cedar Park Premier Dentistry to schedule your routine cleaning and exam with Dale Williams, DDS.
