If you want to straighten your teeth without metal, there are a number of options for which you may be a good candidate. Two of the most common options are Invisalign and clear braces. Although you’ve probably seen Invisalign referred to as clear braces, they are actually two different orthodontic treatments.
Clear braces work just like metal braces, with brackets and wires. Unlike metal braces, the brackets of clear braces are made of ceramic material matched to the color of your natural teeth. For this reason, they are called “clear” because it is more difficult to see the brackets. The wire is sometimes tooth-colored as well.
Invisalign provides an even clearer, less noticeable way to straighten your teeth. Instead of brackets and wires, Invisalign uses an aligner made of medical-grade plastic. The plastic is clear instead of tooth-colored. Many people will not even realize you are wearing Invisalign.
No single option is right for every patient. First, the condition of your bite and teeth will need to be evaluated. Dale Williams, DDS, can let you know which of these orthodontic options you are a good candidate for, and he can help you decide if you want to proceed with Invisalign or clear braces treatment.
