A dental crown restores a damaged tooth by rebuilding the tooth structure. A dental crown may be used to repair a tooth that is:
- Broken
- Fractured
- Worn
- Badly decayed
A dental crown restores the upper portion of the tooth. To place the crown, our dentist Dr. Dale Williams will first prepare your tooth. Typically the tooth must be reduced in size, by gently abrading away some of the enamel. This way the dental crown can fit over the tooth. The dental crown is a strong, secure tooth restoration that allows you to chew, speak, and smile with confidence.
In the first stage of your treatment, Dr. Williams will prepare the tooth, make an impression of the tooth, and then put a temporary dental crown over it. Once your permanent dental crown has been fabricated, you will come back to our office and have it bonded to your tooth.
The dental crown is an effective means of restoring a damaged tooth. There are other tooth replacement options that may or may not be better suited to treating your tooth damage. The only way to know which restorations are options for you is to visit Dr. Williams for an exam and consultation.
