Invisalign vs Braces

There are a number of differences between Invisalign® and traditional braces, most of which make Invisalign a much more attractive option for adults. First and foremost, Austin Invisalign aligner trays are significantly less noticeable than braces, making them desirable for business and social interactions. Most adults like to maintain a grownup appearance. Invisalign allows you to do so while still effectively improving the function and appearance of your smile.

To learn if you are a good candidate for Invisalign, please call today to schedule a free consultation at our conveniently located Cedar Park dentistry office. Your teeth are unique, and Dr. Kondoff can determine if braces or Invisalign will most effectively achieve your best smile and oral health.

Comfort of Invisalign

Braces are comprised of two primary parts: wire and brackets. The brackets are made of hard plastic or metal which can cut lips and irritate sensitive oral tissue. The wire is strung through the brackets allowing your dentist to gradually pull your teeth into their optimal position through manual adjustments. Many people, particularly adults whose jaws have solidified, find these manual adjustments to be uncomfortable.

Austin Invisalign uses a series of soft plastic aligner trays to gently push your teeth into their optimal position. The soft plastic will not irritate sensitive oral tissue and the gradual adjustments made by each progressive aligner are less intensive than manual adjustments, although you may experience some degree of discomfort, especially the first day or two of wearing a new aligner.

Convenience of Invisalign

Braces are attached to your teeth. Not only does this limit what foods you can eat, it makes basic dental hygiene very difficult. Once braces are removed it is not uncommon for severe staining to have occurred, requiring additional cosmetic dentistry treatments to improve the overall appearance of your smile.

Invisalign aligner trays are removed for eating and tooth cleaning. This allows you to continue eating as you normally would and to maintain an optimal oral healthcare routine. These benefits, along with the improved comfort offered by Invisalign, make them the ideal treatment for many of our adult and older teen patients. But there is not a single treatment that is right for every patient. We are committed to finding the right treatments for you, and the only way to know if you are an Invisalign candidate is to be examined by an experienced dentist.
